Stu
Moment comes from Champaign, Illinois. Stu started flying in
1967 at the now defunct Mitchell Field, west of Chicago. On a
busboy's pay it took two years to earn a private license. |
Stu worked as
a flight instructor at the University of Illinois between 1973 and
1980 and made the student voted list of "excellent instructors".
Stu was Chairman then president of Sublogic Corporation, known for
the development of Microsoft Flight Simulator for personal computers.
Under contract with the United States Air Force, Stu personally modeled
flight equations for a Personal Computer based Flight Simulation of
the T-37, T-38 and F-16 for use at primary training bases.
Stu has accumulated
over 8000 hours flying time of which 800 hours is aerobatic time.
But old dogs need to learn new tricks; Stu recently finished his
aircraft mechanics ratings at the University of Illinois, Institute
of Aviation.
Stu bought
a Pitts Special, model S2B, in 1986 and has thoroughly explored
the flight envelope. He now flies the modified Pitts S2 ("The
Super Spritts"). Stu installed a hopped-up engine in the Pitts
to make his snappy routine even snappier. Stu's space shuttle smoke
system makes him Smoke Dog. Sometimes Stu loans his airplane to
Elvis for stunt flying. Stu also flies a colorful night show as
DanceDog or Elvis. Stu is an avid model airplane enthusiast and
uses radio control models to view the presentation of his maneuvers.
Stu has received
both, the Airmanship and the Gold Seal Safety Awards from the Professional
Airshow Producers and Performers Association.
